Hair Tips: Rain Tamed

The rainy season has commenced! Sorry snowy places, we know your hair is better safe in warm and comfy hats. What are you doing to keep your hair from being frizzy? Here are some tips to help your hair survive this cat-and-dog weather:

* Always start by misting a heat-protective spray on wet hair. Not only does it stop hair from drying out over time (which makes it much more frizz-prone), it helps create a barrier against environmental moisture.
* Add a little anti-frizz product [try using G | M's High-Gloss Serum!] Just keep the application light, and if you can, skip the holding products (like mousse, styling cream). While the temptation is always to pile on more products when it's crappy out, this actually makes frizz seem worse most of the time.
* Blow your hair bone dry. Absolutely no moisture should be left in the hair when you're trying to maintain a blowout in humid air.
* Let your hair cool completely before stepping out into the elements (or finish your styling by using your dryer's cold setting). This'll ensure that your cuticle lays flat so water vapor can't sneak its way in.
* Resist running your hands through your hair.

Master of Hair Colors-- No, Not Lady G

The beautiful actress, Rachel McAdams, has played the sweet (and mean) girl in movies such as Mean Girls, Wedding Crashers, and The Notebook, but her hair assisted in transforming her look! What hair color do you think looks best on her?
Remember, when choosing a color for your hair, natural, or a few shades lighter/ darker, is always the best choice!

Wiggin' It

HAPPY HALLOWEEN WEEKEND!

So you are getting ready to party it up in celebration of Halloween. You have your costume, your make-up, and your platform stilettos. No costume is complete without a wig! Oh, having trouble putting on the wig without wisps of hair flying out? No fear! Okay, maybe just a little for the holiday spirit.

HOW TO PUT ON A WIG

1. Take the wig out of the package and shake it gently to separate the fibers. Identify the front and back of the wig. Remember, the label goes in back.
2. Brush your own hair back. Pin longer hairs up and away from the front, sides, and nape of your head. A wig cap will keep hair in place.
3. Grasp the wig at the top back as shown:

4. Slip the wig over your head from hairline to neck. Adjust so that the front edge lines up with your hairline.

5. The wig should feel secure, but not too tight. If necessary, adjust the elastic straps (pull towards the label to tighten, pull away from the label to loosen).
6. Tuck in any stray hairs, and your're done! Style as you would your own hair.

Stay safe for Halloween!!

Hats Off to Mr. Jones

Have you heard of one of the best fashion innovators of our time to make head wear ever so glam? He is a British milliner who has made hats modern and compelling; radical and yet whimsical; and exquisitely crafted. Meet Stephen Jones.

Born and bred in Britain, Jones made his first debut onto the London fashion scene during the late seventies. Contemporaries of that time hungered for his individuality. He made his career as an acclaimed milliner and was known as the man who always crowned himself with a dynamic piece.

Twenty-five years later, Jones has designed head wear for Lady Diana, Rihanna, Mick Jagger, Gwen Stefani, and Beyonce among others.

Think P I N K: Strong Locks of Love

Happy October everyone! The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month organization is celebrating their 25 years of awareness, education, and empowerment. As some of you may know, cancer patients undergo a hair loss side effect from chemotherapy called alopecia. Some patients will cut their hair short once they start chemotherapy to prepare for the loss of their hair. Hair will eventually grow back after three months, but the texture and color may differ. (NBCAM)

If you know someone that has been affected by cancer, there are many ways to help. Here are links to organizations that can help you aid the cure for cancer:

Right in the Kisser!

Can your lipstick reveal your personality? Lil' Mama said it right, "WHAT YOU KNOW 'BOUT ME" in her up-beat song that pays homage to all lip cosmetics- "Lip Gloss". So, what does your lipstick say about you? Cynthia Christ, owner of Sensia studios, observed her clients' personalities by the shape of their lipstick and later formulated a Lipstick/Personality chart. She says, "You'd be surprised... You can tell a lot about how [clients] get their make-up... You can also tell a woman by looking at her make-up."

So ladies (and gents), acquire your lipstick, gently open the cap, softly twist the capsule rightwards, and POW, reveal your personality!

1. Slanted tip, close to original shape - You are careful and keep reserved, avoiding too much attention. Although you do go for a new hair colour or outfit now and then to boost your self confidence. You thrive on schedules and usually abide by the rules.

2. Rounded tip to a point - The sharper the point, the more ambitious you are. You’re get-up-and-go attitude means you are loved by all, especially the family as they are the pride of your life. You’re known to exaggerate and can sometimes be stubborn over little things. But you’re loveable nature ensures you are never alone, which is good for you as you thrive on having others around.
2. Rounded to a tip point
3. Rounded, smooth tip - People love your easy-going and even tempered nature. You are usually always happy, and seem to be the peacemaker with your friend’s problems. You like to brighten people’s day with a splash of generosity.

4. Flat top - You’re always one to rise to a challenge, with your quick thinking and to-the-point nature. Friends know they can rely on you, as you always stick to your high morals. You tend to be careful with your appearance.
4. Flat top
5. Sharp, angled tip - Routine is boring for you, you’re much too high spirited to work on schedules. You’re loud and outgoing, but sometimes your highly opinionated views gets you into arguments. You’re also very selective of your friends.
5. Sharp, angled tip
6. Flat top, concave - Your complex and inquisitive nature would make you a great detective. Making friends is never an issue for you, as you lead such an adventurous and exciting life.

7. Sharp, angled, but curved tip - Attention is always on you, which you love, as you’re talkative, enthusiastic and energetic. You think with your heart, which feeds your creative flair, but also means you tend to fall in love easily.

Shear Genius

Running late for work? The experts at Glamour Magazine recommend your choice of 5 five-minute updos that make you look like a Shear Genius. Let's face it, between pillow talks our tresses love to tell a tale of the night before, so why not lock up the locks and finish it with a glam slam up-DO? Remember, make it work!

1. The Double-Band Updo
Leighton Meester
Work in mousse and blow-dry. Make waves with a curling iron, then loosely twist back and pin in a bun (let a few pieces fall out). Slip on two stretchy bands, one behind the other, and nudge hair into shape.

2. The Polished Ponytail
Kim Kardashian
Spritz a heat styler on damp hair; blow dry. Run a flatiron through for extra sleekness. Create a mega-laquer finish with GLOSS Moderne High- Gloss Serum. Pony up!

3. The Classic Bun
Hayden Panettiere
Blow-dry using a paddle brush, then part on the side. Brush hair back at your nape and twist it around, pinning as you shape it into a bun. Then gloss it up with GLOSS Moderne High- Gloss Serum!

4. High on Top, Low Below
Angelina Jolie
Apply volumizer to damp hair and air-dry. Brush hair into a low side ponytail, but don't completely pull the end of it through the elastic- you want a messy chigon. To make it more casual, pull a few pieces out in front.

5. The Super Quick Fix
Lauren Conrad
Center your part. Put on a headband. Done!

Bang! You're Fringe Fabulous.

Everyone, whether be it guy or gal, has a love-hate relationship with their bangs- too short or too long; too frizzy or too greasy; or maybe your bangs hit that "awkward" stage. Well let's tame those lone star hair bandits with four easy ways to maintain that mane. Our friends at Refinery 29 resolved our  inevitable fringe-dilemma by teaming up with Bumble and Bumble hair stylist, Sloane Sera, to keep our bangs bangin'!

1. Start with damp hair and spray bangs with a thickening spray.

2. Using a hair-dryer, blow bangs back-and-forth to neutralize any cowlicks.

3. Set with a roller. Collect your bangs into one section, pull the roller through and to the ends, and then wrap your hair around it.

4. Either wait a few minutes (finish getting ready while the roller sets), or blow-dry to speed up the process. Finish with hairspray.
