Gone Fishin'

The fishtail braid is something that I have yet to master, but I love the way it looks. It creates an entirely different look than a regular braid with so much more detail. The herringbone pattern makes is more of a fashion statement and it looks so sweet for the (FINALLY) warming weather.

Here is a step-by-step to help you (and I) learn to create a fishtail:
-Run a pea-sized drop of Brazilian Gloss Smoothing Serum through your hair (preferably dry) to help smooth the hair.
-Separate your hair into 2 equal sections at the nape
-Then starting from the outside, take a small section from the right side, and cross it over to the inside of the left section. (If you grab from underneath rather than the side it will create a more scaled look)
-Continue switching sides all the way down until you are satisfied with the length.
-Secure with a ponytail elastic.
To create a messy look like the one pictured, pull out face framing pieces and rough up the braid once secure. Don’t worry about perfection, the less perfect, the more bohemian!
Happy Fishin’!

Pocket Skirts

For me, one of the biggest downfalls of spring/summer is the lack of clothing with pockets. Or at least it used to be!
With winter you have coats, hoodies and pants which all have one thing in common. Pockets. Sure you have shorts during spring/summer, but I am talking dresses and skirts, the girlier the better. Luckily, that is changing. More and more clothing designers are adding a helpful little necessity to their flirty spring lines. Who wants to bring their big bags when it’s hot out? I just want to throw my Dior lipgloss and iPhone in my pocket.

One of the best things about this vintage skirt (it isn’t the price, $280) is that it is a staple piece. The color can be bright for spring, or pair it with tights for the fall. Not to mention the functional pockets! Change up your daily black for this gorgeous burgundy.

This skirt from Jack B.B. Dakota screams spring with the sweet pink and chocolate color combination (and it won’t break the bank, $26.95). This can take you all over town this spring and pair it with a simple white tee and cute nude wedges and you are one styling sister!

Braids From Day To Night

If you don’t have time to really style your hair, get in style with a braid. They have been seen on runways all over the world for fashion weeks. There are side braids, “milkmaid” braids, fishtails, messy, and sleek. Any way you wear them, they look fabulous.
If you want a messy braided look like the one pictured, use some texturizing spray and braid the bottom portion of the hair loosely. Gently pull out some of the strands on the opposite side to create a carefree look. You can take this from day to night by pairing it with some black sequined shorts and a sassy white blouse.

To create a sleek side braid, start with a low side part and use some High-Gloss Serum to tame those flyaways then braid tightly to secure. This look can take you from the office to happy hour, just put on some fun spring lipstick like corals or pinks and you're ready for a night out.

Can't decide?? Try this look like Blake Lively with a smooth ponytail and messy braid, it's a great compliment of both looks.

One of the best date-night hairstyles is a braid tied into a messy bun. This look is classy, yet casual. It can take you easily through the day from lunch with your girlfriends to a date by adding some flair. Pair this with some statement earrings and you have the perfect look. Make sure to pump up the volume at the crown to create a little drama.

One of the more recent braided looks coming back is the milkbraid. This is a look that I prefer to be looser, more relaxed. If it is pulled to tight it can look a little too "Little House on the Prairie," unless that is the look you are going for. The braid across the top of the head can make a style more interesting, giving a different look to the typical parting. I think Sienna Miller pulls this off beautifully.

Don't worry all of you bobbed beauties, try a simple braid across the front of your hairline to add a little spunk. (It is also a great way to get pesky bangs out of your face!). Try the messy bun braid by pulling the hair into a small ponytail at the nape of the neck too!

Neutrals and Nudes With A Splash of Color

Spring is in love with the sandy and beige tones. And so are we! A lot of people might think that these neutral hues are boring and unflattering for spring. Not to fret, that’s what accessories are for! Pair your outfit with bright colored bracelets, purse, or shoes and it will complete your outfit with a chic and sophisticated look. Adding a little color will also help stray away from the washed out look people may get when wearing nude colors together.

Hair Accessories to Freshen up Your Style

With spring fast approaching, and fashion week behind us it’s time to take all of the different hairstyles and accessories and put them to use on our own heads.

Flowers have been in and out of style over the last 5 years, this spring it’s all about placement. With the big hair that is popular right now, a large flower is a fun spring accessory to put a pop of color in your hair. You need to make sure that the flower is placed right so it doesn’t look childish. A good rule of thumb is to keep it either below your eye, towards the front of your face, or if your hair is pulled back, below the ear towards the back. They add a touch of femininity to any look and can be paired with a simple pair of capris, a tee and flats for spring day or add a sparkly flower with a LBD (Little Black Dress) for a night out! I love this look from the Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 Ready-to-Wear (not to mention that adorable 70’s inspired dress!)

This is an adorable look that was seen at the Chanel runway show, this clip is the perfect way to dress up a bun. High buns are popping up all over the fashion scene, so this is a nice break from that and I adore that pearl accessory.

We are taking another tip from the 70’s- barrettes are back! Yes, those straight barrettes that the fashion and beauty world avoided for so many years. They can be placed at the nape of your neck for an easy alternative to the ponytail, as seen in Prada Fall ’11 show. Use multiple clips to create a funky updo seen in Carolina Herrera’s Spring ’11 show. But don’t overdo it, you don’t want to look like this model from Alexander McQueen’s Fall ’11 show.
So be daring and try a new accessory for spring!
